Powerball Power Play Changes coming January 2014

The Powerball game is to change on January 22, 2014, bringing back the Power Play prize multiplier that was set earlier last year. The Power Play is currently an option available to players at the cost of $1 extra per line, and gives players the chance to increase their prizes, all the way up to Match 5 (Match 5 prize is doubled to $2 million if won using Power Play, regardless of multiplier number). The upcoming Powerball changes will mean that the number can vary, and will be drawn from a separate machine. The variable multiplier can be 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x for any of the prizes except the Jackpot and Match 5.

Regular Powerball players will remember that the Powerplay used to be an option that was stopped in January 2012 and had a set prize structure instead of a variable one. Bringing back the Powerplay will mean that for the same $1 extra, players can have the chance to multiply any non-jackpot or Match 5 winnings by 2-5x!
This of course means that lower tier prizes which regularly have more winners will pay out larger sums of money if the Power Play option is picked. For example, the Match 4 plus Powerball with Power Play prize is $40,000, if the PowerPlay number drawn is (5), then the prize would be $200,000!
Will the Powerball odds change?
No, the odds of winning any of the Powerball prizes will not change, as the main game matrix itself isn’t changing, the only thing that will change is the amount of money that will pay out at various prize levels if a player opts in to the Power Play option.
