The Mega Millions is changing on October 22nd to offer players better odds of winning, and promises to create much bigger jackpots. The good news for players is that the price of a ticket is going to stay at just $1, and jackpots are going to increase by at least $5 million each time the jackpot rolls! Another exciting change is that the MegaPlier option will offer multiplications in the lower tier prizes of up to 5x, compared to the current 4x maximum. Not only will players see the jackpot increase by a minimum of $5 million each time it rolls, but they will also see the starting jackpot increased to $15 million, compared to the current $12 million. How will the Mega Millions game change?
The way players play the Mega Millions is going to change, players will still pick five main numbers, however they are going to have to pick them from a pool of 75 numbers, compared to the 56 that are used up until the changes take place. Not only this, but the pool for picking the Mega Ball is changing too, starting on October 22nd, players will pick one Mega Ball from a pool of 15, a decrease from the current pool of 46. Of course, changes to the game matrix means that the odds of winning the jackpot are also going to change. The current odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 175, 711, 536, when the changes are implemented, the odds of winning the jackpot will decrease to 1 in 258, 890, 850. This is expected to cause the jackpots to climb much higher than they currently do, with the largest jackpot so far in 2013 being $190,000,000 which was won on May 17th by two ticket holders. The last draw using the current Mega Millions matrix and game design will take place on October 18th, 2013, with tickets going on sale for the new and improved game the following day, October 19th.
